“WarRoom” host Owen Shroyer slammed Big Tech companies Facebook, Twitter, Google and Netflix for blocking Russian news broadcasts at the direct behest of the European Union (EU).
“Nice, more authoritarian censorship. This is very dangerous, folks. Whether you think Putin is the worst person on the planet or the best; the good guy or the bad guy; you like Russia or hate Russia, tyrants censor information, bad guys censor speech,” Shroyer said during a recent episode of his program.
“So Russia could be the bad guy; Putin can be the bad guy. But guess what? Facebook, Twitter, Google, Netflix, and all these Big Tech companies, I know they’re the bad guys – because they lie about me and they censor me for telling the truth, too.” (Related: The first casualty of war is the truth – the current western propaganda for Ukraine is epic in scale.)
Facebook is restricting access to content from RT and Sputnik on both its main social media platform and Instagram following “requests from a number of governments,” according to Nick Clegg, the company’s president for global affairs. Clegg announced the move on February 28.
The EU earlier announced it will ban RT and Sputnik broadcasts across the bloc. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the networks are spreading “harmful disinformation,” and that the EU is further “developing tools to ban toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe.”
Following pressure from EU officials, Google also announced that it will block YouTube channels “connected to RT and Sputnik across Europe, effective immediately.” YouTube is a subsidiary of Google.
Twitter has also started putting warning labels on all content related to Sputnik and RT, according to news outlet Politico. Netflix has also announced it is blocking all Russian TV channels, which were previously available on the platform in Russia owing to a Russian law mandating they be included.
“When they start saying Putin disinformation, Russia disinformation, keep in mind that these are the same people that said disinformation if you said Trump didn’t collude with Russia; these are the same people that said disinformation when you said Hunter Biden’s laptop was real; these are the same people that said disinformation when you said [Wuhan coronavirus] COVID-19 was made in the lab; these are the same people that said disinformation when you said masks and lockdowns don’t work; these are the same people that said disinformation when you said you have a 99.9 percent chance of surviving COVID; these are the same people that said disinformation when you said the vaccines are deadly. Well, all of this stuff they said was disinformation is now true,” Shroyer said.
“So when they start saying Putin and Russia disinformation, you start thinking, hmm, maybe there’s something real going on there.”
To prove his point, Shroyer played a clip of internet sensation Coach Red Pill reporting on the ground in Ukraine. Shroyer called it “the most honest coverage” he had seen about the situation.
In the video, Red Pill said there had been instances of looting, robbery and rape in Ukrainian capital Kyiv since President Volodymyr Zelensky handed out weapons to criminals and gang members in the city.
“That’s something that the Western media is not talking about,” Red Pill said. “The Zelinsky regime has basically given weapons to all the criminal elements in the city. And the criminal elements in the city are, first of all, figuring out their dominance hierarchy and anarchy that the government has created. And soon enough, once that’s settled, they started targeting the civilians.”
Red Pill lives in Ukraine and has Ukrainian family members, but he’s obviously not impressed with the country’s leadership.
“They are creating chaos in Ukraine in the name of the people fighting against the Russians. It’s absurd. It’s irresponsible. And it will only hurt the Ukrainian people. And I’ve come to the conclusion that the Zelinsky regime is evil,” he said. (Related: Ukraine learns the value of an armed citizenry, but far too late.)
Red Pill apologized for sounding a little frazzled in the video, but he’s got a very good reason for that. “I’m worried about getting shot. Not shot by the Russians or shot by the Ukrainian army, but shot by criminals that this Zelinsky regime has armed here in Kyiv,” he said.
