Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has endorsed anti-censorship candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.). He has also predicted RFK Jr.’s victory in the 2024 presidential elections.
Dorsey made his endorsement and prediction in a June 5 tweet. He wrote that RFK Jr. “can and will” beat incumbent President Joe Biden. The former Twitter head also said he is confident that Kennedy will beat either former President Donald Trump or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of the Republican Party.
Dorsey’s tweet was in response to a recent interview where the health freedom advocate expressed confidence over a victory against his two rivals. When asked if this was an endorsement or simply a prediction, Dorsey replied it was both. The erstwhile Twitter CEO also blasted the Democratic National Committee, saying that it is getting “more irrelevant by the day.”
Not everyone took too kindly to Dorsey backing the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, however. Political commentator Keith Olbermann called the former head of Twitter a “moron.”
Christian Christensen, an academic at Stockholm University in Sweden, also blasted Dorsey’s support of the Democratic candidate. He tweeted: “So Dorsey has come out and endorsed conspiracy wacko Kennedy. And this is they guy who was supposed to be running some kind of radical Marxist indoctrination platform when he was boss at Twitter?”
Breitbart tech correspondent Allum Bokhari noted the stark contrast between Dorsey backing RFK Jr. and the former Twitter CEO’s espousal of censorship. Bokhari noted that back in 2018, Dorsey dismissed Twitter’s claim to be the “free speech wing of the free speech party” as but a mere “joke.”
Dorsey’s tenure was also marked with censorship regarding the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines against the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). Incidentally, RFK Jr. and other scientists also found themselves being censored by Twitter over this issue. Parag Agrawal succeeded Dorsey in November 2021, and Elon Musk took over as Twitter CEO in October 2022 after he purchased the company. Musk later stepped down in June 2023 to give way to his replacement, incumbent Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino.
“Despite this and other forms of censorship proliferating during his time as CEO, Dorsey has attempted to restore his free speech credentials since leaving his position – including laying out a series of principles for social media platforms to resist government censorship efforts,” Bokhari wrote.
“His endorsement of RFK Jr. seems to be the latest example of Dorsey attempting to jettison his old image as an enforcer of progressive narratives.”
For his part, the Democratic presidential candidate blasted the establishment’s embrace of censorship during an April 24 exclusive interview with Breitbart. “We’re now in this situation where without free speech, democracy just withers and dies. Free speech is the fertilizer, it’s the sunlight, it’s the water for democracy,” he said.
“There is no time in history where the people who were censoring speech were the good guys. They’re always the bad guys because, of course, that is the first and last step of totalitarianism – silencing critics.”
